Black Daisy

Black Daisy are an all girl pop/rock band who are based in Dublin, Ireland. Lesley-Ann from Limerick, is singer and bassist, Nicki Billings, from Wicklow is on guitar, while Asta Mileriene, originally from Alytus, Lithuania is the drummer. Asta started playing drums in a band called AIRIJA (Ireland in Lithuanian). In 2001 she moved to Ireland and continued her music career with NOJUS, a Lithuanian band based in Dublin, and shortly after, Asta and Black Daisy's paths crossed!

Black Daisy are a fun loving upbeat band, with influences ranging from 80s music to pop/chart/dance music and of course good old Rock'n'Roll! The girls write their own songs and gig regularly in venues to audiences everywhere!!

Black Daisy are Ireland’s only high profile all girl rock band, and intend to continue to play their infectiously catchy music all around the world....starting of course right here!! The girls were delighted and honored to team up with Sinead Mulvey to represent their country in this years Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow. The girls promised to make Ireland proud....which they certainly did! With world domination in their sights, this is just the beginning for Black Daisy...

Q&A - A&Q

On Friday a special Q&A session is being held at Riddlers with Sheila dodging bullets between both sides of the Marriage Equality/Civil Partnership debate. LGBT Noise and MarriageEquality will be in attendance as will representation from GLEN.

The drama begins at 8pm

Following the debate the Pride Variety show will kick off with a host of local LGBT talent led by the fabulous Alternative Miss Limerick Angel Gaybriel. The evening should get everyone fired up for the parade on Saturday 19th.

A late club will be running after the variety show upstairs at Riddlers.

LGBT Health day

LGBT Health day on Wed 16th @Best Western Pery Hotel from 2pm-6pm

Rainbow Support Services have organised a LGBT health information day with a wide range of workshops covering different health issues that affect the LGBT community.  These workshops will be no longer than 45minutes each, some will be repeated during the afternoon.  RSS aim to provide the LGBT community during pride with taster sessions of each of the different health issues to enhance your mind, body and soul. 
You can take part in the whole afternoon or just pop in for an hour or so and put your name down on the workshops you wish to attend.  Some workshops will be in small groups and others will be one to one.  Learn how to be healthier or just relax in one of the complementary workshops.

This is a free event with complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits.   

Don’t Dream It! Be It!

As part of Limerick Pride 2009, CentreSPACE Studios presents The Rocky Horror Show, the interactive experience on screen. This cult movie which has developed a devoted following is coming to Limerick.  All freaks are welcome, the wilder and wackier the better.

Your host Myles Breen, assisted by Limerick’s newest dance troupe PRECISION will guide you through this unique experience.

Bring your props, such as newspapers, confetti, pieces of toast and be ready to sing along and shout at the screen.

Most importantly bring your fishnets and dancing shoes and let yourself go to the Time Warp!

With live performances by special guests this promises to be an evening to remember. Spot prizes for best costume, best freak and most enthusiastic audience member.

Now all together “It’s just a jump to the left!”

Rehearsed Reading of 'Walnuts remind me of my mother' by Elizabeth Moynihan

As part of Limerick pride CentreSPACE Studios are delighted to present a rehearsed reading of “Walnuts remind me of my Mother” by Elizabeth Moynihan.
The play is the darkly comic tale of Rua, a young lesbian from the small village of Spit where “everyone knows everyone”. After spending most of her young life desperately trying to win her Mother's respect and understanding, Rua is finally forced to leave her hostile community and her family behind. Hitting the 90's London club and drug scene, and a not so Gay Paris, Rua begins her search for the life she craves.

Elizabeth Moynihan trained under Deirdre O’Connell at Focus Theatre Stanislavsky Studio and at LAMDA as an actor. She has worked in Ireland and the U.K as an actor for the last 17 years. Seven years ago she began writing her first play on a twelve month tour of ‘The Chastitute’, around Ireland.
She made her debut as a playwright when Tic was produced by Tall Tales Theatre Company. Her plays Cider Queens and Cider Queens two, were broadcast on RTE radio, April 2009. She is associate writer for Blood in the Alley theatre company, who commissioned a series of workshops of her play ‘In the Absence of Snow’ which has just had a performance in the Focus theatre festival at the Mill theatre Dundrum. The critically acclaimed ‘Walnuts remind me of my mother’, sold out the first week of the Absolute International Gay Theatre festival 2009. She is currently working on a series of short stories entitled: Junkies, Lushes and Trannies and her new play ‘Pinching for my Soul’ will be produced in autumn 2010. Elizabeth was recently commissioned by the Abbey theatre for inclusion in their short play season 2010.

Directed by Myles Breen, and with a talented cast including Tracy Aspel, Ann Blake, Karen Fitzgibbon, Stephanie O Keefe and Norma Lowney, this event promises to be funny and thought provoking..

Upon moving to San Francisco from New York City in 1972, forty year old Harvey Milk gains focus in his life as a gay activist in the city's Castro district. Gay rights activism turns to political activism as Milk decides he can be a more effective voice for the gay community as a politician, elected or not. Through several elections and losses both for a city seat and a state assembly seat, Milk becomes the first openly gay man in the United States to be elected to political office when he wins a San Francisco supervisor seat in 1977. His many political battlefronts include one with the national anti-gay Save the Children crusade, led and fronted by singer Anita Bryant. Closer to home, Milk has a continuing struggle with his fellow supervisor, Dan White, a staunch social conservative.
